Axle concept with high steering angles
Thanks to urbanization and increasing inner-city mobility requirements innovative vehicle concepts gain more and more importance. Good maneuverability is essential. The technical solution is a system with high steering angles.
State-of-the-art are wheel steering angles up to about 40 degrees at the front axle. Due to kinematic boundaries of the system, conflicting installation spaces, and the requirements of vehicle dynamics for example, conventional constructions technically cannot achieve notably higher angles.
Therefore, our innovative steering system, which we developed together with a partner, combines a conventional system with kinematic adjustments and enables steering angles up to 70 degrees. This concept is implemented in the vehicle concept “Advanced Urban Vehicle” of ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
The electric steering system in our own research vehicle SpeedE is one step ahead with angles up to 90 degrees.
