Charge Management for Electric Vehicle Fleets

Energy management for electric vehicles is of utmost importance due to high costs of energy storage and charging infrastructure. The aim for small batteries and high usage of charging points results in a challenge for the operation of electric vehicles. In commercial vehicle applications, economics and availability of the vehicles are the focus of attention. A widespread introduction of electrification will only be enabled with the minimization of the gap to conventional propulsion systems. The usage of available information on operations of vehicle fleets offers great potential to accelerate the transformation process.

Intelligent and Connected Charging Strategies

fka GmbH designs intelligent and connected charging strategies, which enable a smooth operation of electric vehicles. For this, the state of the vehicles and charging infrastructure are evaluated online. This includes the state of charge of the batteries of all vehicles as well as the occupation of the charging points. When a decision on the next charging event is required, the charge management is activated. Based on the upcoming usage profile, the energy demand of the entire fleet is estimated. Upon this, an evalutation is carried out which results in a definition of the next charging event. Modified parameters are the charging duration and charging power. The goal is to fulfill all transportation tasks of people and goods with the given vehicle fleet in an optimal and efficient way.

The charge management can additionally be considered in the conception of vehicle fleets. Based on the real operating scenario, heterogeneous fleets of different propulsion technologies are feasible. This requires an adaption of the charging infrastructure as well. Find out more on our competences in the field of energy management and simulation.

Strategies for your Individual Application

You are operating an (electric) commercial vehicle fleet and want to determine appropriate configurations of vehicles and charging infrastructure for your application? Feel free to contact us at any time! In a joint project, we simulate your fleet in a first step. To do so, we require a description of your operating profile. On request, we can gather this data as well. In the second step, the charge management and fleet configuration is drafted and validated virtually. In case the system is realized afterwards, we support the introduction and operation with an online-version of the charge management.

We're looking forward to your message!
