How can a small electric vehicle be attractively positioned between lightweight vehicles like the Renault Twizy (kerb weight: 550 kg) and a Smart Fortwo electric drive (kerb weight: 1,085 kg)?
This was our major question within the EU-funded project epsilon with renowned partners from industry and research, coordinated by fka.
A vehicle to fill the gap in the current range of cars of European OEMs should be significantly lighter and more energy efficient than an electro Smart, but at the same time offer considerably higher safety levels than a lightweight vehicle.
After three years of research, the project presents its driving prototype with 600 kg kerb weight and the potential for a four star Euro NCAP rating, as a real crash test with the lightweight body structure of the vehicle shows.
