Heavy-duty vehicles CO2 targets 2030: Which drivetrain technology will win?

After the passenger car market has been driven by regulation to ever greater CO2 optimization over the past ten years, it is time for the EU's second-largest cause of greenhouse gas emissions in road traffic: heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) like commercial trucks or buses.

Due to ambitious CO2 reduction targets of 15 % by 2025 and 30 % by 2030, an entire industry is being challenged to realize the most disruptive change in its history with an extremely short lead time and far-reaching consequences for the entire supplier landscape.

The Whitepaper provides a brief insight into the legislation before taking a closer look at the starting position of CO2emissions at HDV. The alternative technology strategies and their dependence on specific fields of application are analyzed and corresponding OEM activities presented. In a conclusion, we share our thoughts around the direct implications on the value chain.

Commercial Vehicles: Feasibility Studies for Electrification, Real Consumption and Fleet Optimisation

German and worldwide climate protection goals will lead to an increasing share of alternative drivetrains within the heavy road transport sector. For commercial vehicle fleet operators this raises the question of the feasibility of an electrification of the vehicles.
