User-infrastructure interaction
In order to maximize traffic safety, we believe in behavior changing methods already in early stages. We want to prevent already the occurrence of dangerous situations by nudging people to a better behavior.
Currently we are analyzing different nudging measures in traffic to subconsciously pushing humans to make a desired choice (e.g. reducing speed), without being prohibitive against alternative choices of action.
The results will be implemented in a public field trial in the Netherlands. Studies are taking place in parallel in driving simulators and in field trials under simulated and realistic conditions.
Human-infrastructure-vehicle interfaces are becoming increasingly important in the context of automated and autonomous driving. Therefore, we also develop new methods and technologies for modeling, sensors and user interaction. Thanks to our highly dynamic driving simulator these new methods can be experienced and evaluated directly.
One of our other research projects allows the appropriate planning and modeling of infrastructure. The interdisciplinary team of traffic and infrastructure experts with psychologists created a web-based program to estimate and visualize potential areas for rapid charging infrastructure under consideration of user, traffic and urban requirements.
